The University of South Alabama Jags took the field Tuesday for their first practice since their scrimmage on Saturday. Their practice consisted of contact drills and red zone defensive stands on third down situations. The defensive unit stood firm allowing only two yards or less and breaking up four passes on 13 of 17 plays.
Enrique Williams made a sack five plays into the drill, but the offensive unit responded with an 17-yard touchdown pass from C.J.
Bennett to Bryant Lavender on the following play.
In the next series of plays the defense allowed just four total yards on the next five plays, including a pass breakup by Ken Barefield and a tackle for loss by Charlie Higgenbotham.
The offense added six more points when Ray Cotton scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. The defensive unit did not allow any positive yardage in the final six plays of the drill.
In that span, Clifton Crews, Jonathan Cameron and Eddy Cabrera each recorded pass breakups.
During the two-minute drill the defense recorded consecutive sacks by Anthony Taylor and Randon Carnathan on the first two plays from scrimmage.
Carnathan then shot through the line on the next play and forced a fumble and recovered it at the 35-yard line.
Overall it was a good response by the defensive team from the scrimmage on Saturday.
